The modern automatic cold heading machine has been increased from the simple two-station in the past to the multi-station. At present, the newer domestic varieties include 5-mode, 6-mode and 6-mode extended automatic cold heading machine.

Using the plasticity of metal, cold state mechanics is used to apply pressure or cold drawing to achieve the purpose of solid state deformation of metal. A forging method in which the top of a bar or wire is thickened at room temperature. Cold heading is mainly used to manufacture parts such as bolts, nuts, iron nails, rivets and steel balls. Forging billet materials can be copper, aluminum, carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel and titanium alloy, etc., and the material utilization rate can reach 80-90%. Cold heading is mostly carried out on a special automatic cold heading machine, which is convenient to realize continuous, multi-station and automatic production.

On the automatic cold heading machine, the processes of cutting, heading, accumulation, forming, chamfering, thread rolling, diameter reduction and edge trimming can be completed in sequence. The production efficiency is high, up to 300 pieces/min, and the diameter of the largest cold heading workpiece is 48 mm.
